Reveal.

January 31st, 2006

It’s been almost four weeks now and there’s no official word from the judges on who won the Extend Firefox contest.

There was, however, a request from Rafael Ebron to go ahead and put my extension on addons.mozilla.org. Did it last wednesday (Jan 25), and well, word of mouth carried it a bit further than I expected.

As far as I can tell, lifehacker was the blog that really spread the word. Digg then linked to it (indirectly, by linking to lifehacker), Microsiervos linked to it (leading to a proliferation of links among spanish blogs), and Boing Boing, a site I actually read, linked to it.

Cool stuff. Well, I didn’t like the digg one due to a higher concentration of negative comments, but links are links.

So, looking around the web a bit more, I found quite a number of entries about my extension. Here’s a list of a few I found:

Yeah, I had a lot of time to waste.

There was also a particularly interesting one at http://blogs.dion.ne.jp/k_sn/archives/2743042.html. It’s a guide to the Reveal interface for Japanese users. For the most part (one bad exception is the tutorial), Reveal is written with i18n in mind. So, if anyone wants to translate Reveal, contact me and I’ll help you get started.

For some curious reason, Reveal has also landed on a few download sites like softpedia and filecloud. They seem fairly harmless. Just kinda wish filecloud didn’t put down “Reveal Team” for the author(s). At least softpedia got that right.

Just slightly less than a week after being released, Reveal is (at the moment) the 49th most popular extension on addons.mozilla.org. That’s 49th out of 980 extensions, barely a week after being posted. My downloads for the last seven days is still greater than total downloads, yet I’m competing with much older extensions. Users really make software worth coding. If you’re a Reveal user, thanks for trying my extension! I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

Now, if only the judges will hurry up and announce the winners..

Bye, 2005

December 31st, 2005

Yeah, that’s a plain ol’ bye, not a goodbye, or a see ya around, or a nice knowin’ ya.

Nope. It’s more like

  • Bye.
  • Good riddance.
  • About time.
  • Took ya long enough.

and my all time favorite..

  • Fuck you!

Yeah. Get outta here already! You promised so much with your fantastic sounding name, but what did I get? Nada. You knew exactly what I wanted, didn’t ya? I know you did. I wrote it down and sent it to you via registered mail. I’m disappointed.

Well, it doesn’t matter anymore, now does it? We got 2006 comin’ up - you ain’t news anymore. Go away before you make things any worse.

Damn credit

September 18th, 2005

I got rejected from my first credit card application (Rutgers University Student & Alumni FCU Mastercard). Apparently, they can’t verify my social security number and I need someone who will pay the bills in case I can’t.

Felt kinda like a college rejection letter, except less harsh, and I can try again.

Decided to apply for a Wachovia credit card too. Maybe that’ll go through.

Two Twenty Two

August 28th, 2005

Yeah, so I just came back from college ave. after nearly falling asleep on the bus. Need to munch on something, but all I have are twenties and not enough change to make 80 cents.

Yeah, it was one heck of a way to end my first day of college.

I woke up around 8 this morning, packed stuff in the car, visited the bank, and went off to McCormick hall. Drove around and found the tent dispensing the keys, and picked that up, and then unloaded my stuff and went into the building. Some guy with a red shirt helped us. Forgot his name. Anyway, I entered the suite and picked the middle room on the recommendation of the red shirt guy, unloaded, and set off to costco. Got some briar’s cream soda at costco.

Came back around 12:50 and met my roommate. Unloaded a bunch more stuff, and everyone went off to the orientation. Played assassin. I died a horrible death. Then they told us about some parade w/ banners down college ave that we’d have to take part in, with a grand prize of a pizza party. Okay.

Stood around and did nothing while watching other people paint the banner. Then I stood around and did nothing while they created and sung the cheer. It was a rip of the oompa-loopah songs from the original wonka movie. Was pretty funny. They rehearsed the who thing outside in the courtyard, and then we set off to lunch.

Wasn’t much choice ther. There were 4 lines with all the same food. Food wasn’t even that great - not too well seasoned. Edible, though.

Then we came back to the suites, wasted time, and realized we were late for the thing on college ave. Didn’t care.

Arrived on college ave., saw a person with a hookah pipe, and we hung out there listening to the guy and watching his ferret. Then we went down college ave, found a frat that invited us to enjoy their BBQ, and so we did. Ate a hotdog, toured the building, talked for a bit, and then we saw the banner parade coming by. Everyone started yelling and screaming at them. After that, there was more talking, and we returned to the dorms for a break. Then we came back to college ave around 11 to enjoy a frat party, and here I am now, somewhat thirsty and hungry.

Oh yeah, and I saw Paul Venus and Maggie Nelson on the way home. They thought I was a little drunk.

IKEA plywood brushed steel

Emily experiences an IKEA couch

According to EXIF, this photo was taken on August 11. Not sure if that’s right, but I guess it doesn’t matter now that I’m talking about it two weeks after.

So on that day, Emily, Jonathon, and I went off that day to explore the greatest furniture store ever conceived.

Jon discovers something he likes

Gotta love this room. Everything is glued down, including the thing covering the cookies.

A pose with coathangers

Jon obviously has the better pose.

The 99¢ breakfast

We tried the 99¢ breakfast. Eggs and bacon were alright, potatoes were kinda meh.

The IKEA tie

I decided to make a tie out of the free paper measuring tapes.

After IKEA, we checked out the Toys ‘R’ Us across IKEA (I got a slinky) and then headed towards Jersey Gardens for lunch.

Babies are tasty

Couldn’t help but think of cannibalism every time I saw one of these at the mall.

Well, that’s it for now. Join me next time when I consider writing more than a commentary about the pictures I take.

(23:21:01) poison5151: write in your blog dammit

People read my blog? Wow.

Well, okay.. I’ll start posting again.

Noooooooo, not Jamesburg

July 18th, 2005
Heavy downpours dumped up to eight inches of rain yesterday afternoon in portions of Middlesex County, causing flash floods that closed roads and forced the evacuation of between 75 and 100 homes in the hardest-hit section of Jamesburg.
“For some reason, the clouds just stopped over Jamesburg and dumped a whole lot of rain,” said Rob Sklans, spokesman for the Middlesex County Office of Emergency Management.

Storms spawn floods, evacuations

=O

That used to be home and I used to live right next to Lake Manalapan. Damn.

“We’re unable to make any assessments at this time,” Lamantia said. “We’re still unable to get into the flood-damaged areas. We’ve had floods, but never like this before. This is what happens when you get a lot of water in a short period of time.”

No shit.

Never last forever

July 8th, 2005

The days between the last full day of school and graduation, known to underclassmen as the finals, but better known to seniors as the days we really don’t give a shit anymore, went through pretty damn fast. I don’t think I’d remember anything now if I didn’t snap a few pictures.

ritz There were a bunch of nameplates for yearbooks that no one claimed in computer animation.

rawr I wish I put something like this on my nameplate. (colors adjusted so you could see the text better, the original photo was bad)

Someone brought an XBox to the class, and there was Halo 2. I sucked at it. Left school after computer animation and hitched a ride with Stacey. Blayne came along too and got dropped off at his house.

house

After which Stacey randomly decided to drive somewhere (while we discussed using rolls of money as toilet paper) and found this nifty house.

fan

And then I took a picture of a ceiling fan.

On the next-to-last day of finals, I remember:

  • Crashing Mr. Davis’ 3rd period physics class and helping him pack stuff
  • Giving Ms. Delong the Ebola Virus

IHOP menu

After that, Max, Veraya, and I went off to IHOP. It was kinda hot & humid that day.

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

They had an interesting disclaimer on the back of their menu. Sounds ripe for abuse..

the aftermath

Good stuff.

auditorium

On the last day of finals, the seniors had graduation rehearsals. We waited in the auditorium until they started.

Everyone was separated by sex and graduated by height, and I had to take a long walk of shame to the back end of the line..

The King

Sam takes a drag of his fries.

Emily makes a funny face.

(we went to burger king after graduation rehersal)

Well, and that’s about it. Tune in later for the graduation and parties..
